Apax Partners was created in 1972 in Europe and in the United States by Maurice Tchenio (FR) and Ronald Cohen (UK), who joined forces with Alan Patricof (US) in 1976.
In France, Apax Partners was one of the private equity pioneers: we created the first FCPR (Fonds Commun de Placement à Risque), and we are one of the founder-members of the AFIC (The French Private Equity Association).
Apax Partners SA (Paris) is an independent management company, which is fully-owned by its French Partners, with decision-making being centralised in Paris. It has historical relationships with Apax Partners LLP (London) and its international network (5 offices in Europe, 1 in Israel, 1 in the United States and 2 in Asia).
The two companies share the same brand, an investment strategy focused on growth and sector-based specialisation, and have similar in-house processes. They manage separate funds: Apax Partners SA specialises in growth financing and buy-outs of medium-sized companies in France and Europe. Apax Partners LLP focuses on major international LBOs.

Our organisation is sector-based with professionals who are specialised in each of Apax’s specialist sectors. These sector-based teams identify the most-promising investment opportunities and work in close collaboration with the managers so as to establish and implement the company project.

Funds managed by Apax Partners SA exceed EUR 2 billion. Our portfolio is composed of approximately 40 companies, which are primarily French headquartered.
Our funds are raised from major institutional and private investors, and are invested through French private equity vehicles called FCPR (Fonds Commun de Placement à Risque). Other investors (asset managers, individual investors, ...) entrust us with the management of their funds by subscribing for shares in our listed company on Euronext Paris, Altamir Amboise.
